Starburst Mirror Tutorial

Once again Pinterest has inspired me to run headfirst down the road to craftiness.  I came across This Starburst Mirror and knew I was going to give it a try.
Another easy peasy Starburst mirror!
I was making it for a Christmas gift and since I was up to my eyeballs with projects, I must say that my husband actually did the majority of the Heavy lifting!  I simply peered over his shoulder and bossed him around (something I have a gift for)!   We planned on copying this to the tiniest detail but as it came together we made a few changes. However the original tutorial by Momtastic is so great that I am just going to direct you there and share what we learned along the way.

First of all I found normal door shims and then huge cedar shims.  We made our mirror with the standard shims but I have a few packs of the cedar shims and am dying to make a supersized mirror when I get some free time (*cough,  cough…free time...sigh**).

Once our starburst started to come together my husband and I both fell in love with the color variation of the shims and knew we would not be able to paint it.  When we added the mirror we thought about adding beads or adding the shim squares and instead I decided to make a huge fabric flower as a burst of color.

All in all, this project was a lot of fun (to watch my husband make for me).  Technically I just bossed him around and then glued the flower to the mirror. In fact,  as far as my lazy crafter projects go,  this one probably takes the cake,  since I simply bought the materials and dumped them in a pile in my husbands garage!!

The recipient is currently up to her eyeballs in a home renovation but once it is hung,  I will get another picture posted ASAP!
